Contest Winners Announced!

Here are the winners of the Winter/Spring "How I Accidentally Bugged My Best Friend" Contest:

Third Place:
SYLVIA M.
Goleta, CA
4th/5th/6th grade class

Here is Sylvia's entry:

"Dear Ms. Wardlaw,
I am a Montessori Center School student, and as I have quite a bit of experience in irritating my friends and driving them to the brink of insanity, I shall impart my considerable knowledge in the matter to you. This is my favorite technique:
Step # 1:
I perform a unique tribal dance (bobbing my head and walking like turkey,) while emitting a noise similar to a cat being squished by steamroller. This usually freaks them out, and I can commense to phase two.
Step # 2:
I go into a deep sulk, and when they try to cheer me up, roar at them and pounce on one randomly.
Step # 3:
I beg them for their lunch. If they refuse, I give them to the puppy eye . This is possibly the most effective."

Sylvia will receive an autographed copy of a book of her choice.

Second Place:
MICHAEL
Age 10
Nova Scotia

Here is Michael's entry:

"One time I was teasing my sister about her stuffed animal and it turned out that my best friend still slept with one!"

Michael will also receive an autographed copy of a book of his choice.

And the FIRST PRIZE WINNER IS . . .

(drum roll, please)

JAMES
Age 9
Burlingame, Californa

Here is James's entry:

"Well, I wanted to play soccer with my friend, so I kept calling his name over and over again. He said I could play. But then I realized I had forgoten my shin guards and cleats on the other side of the field. I said I had to go get them. I had forgoten my goalie gloves, too, so I had to run across the field again. By the time I got back, the game was over. My team lost because they were short a player. Boy, was my friend upset!

James will also receive an autographed book of his choice, plus a T-shirt that reads: "Bug Off!" Maybe
he should offer it to his best friend. :)

Thanks to all of you who entered. You sent in some fabulously buggable entries! This contest will begin again June 1st, and continue until December 1st. Have fun!

New Contest Announced!
Lee Wardlaw’s
“I Accidentally Bugged My Best Friend” Contest!

Have you ever done something that bugged your best friend?

For instance, did you ever pull an April’s Fool prank on him, even though the Sacred Unwritten Rule of the Playground forbids you from pulling pranks on your best friends?

Or, if the two of you had planned to go skateboarding or to the movies together after school, did you invite another kid to come along without first checking with your best friend?

Or maybe you made a cross-your-heart-and-hope-to-die promise to never reveal her deepest, darkest secret . . . and then, before you knew how it happened, you blurted the secret to the person who it was about, and then that person told your best friend what you’d revealed, and then . . . we’ll, you get the idea!

If so, enter Lee Wardlaw's . . .

Contest deadline is December 1st, 2007

Fall Contest Winners Announced!
The winners of Lee's Fall 2006 "Best Way to Bug Your Brother or Sister" contest are:

(drum roll please!)

First Prize goes to: Eduardo (city and age not given), who submitted this entry:

"One of the most familiar times that I bugged my brother Ismael
age 14 was when I was 11. The thing that I did was I put his
favorite stuffed bear named Mr.Hamilton inside his backpack.
While he was in history class, his teacher asked him to take out
his homework from last night, and when he said O.K., he got
his backpack, unzipped it and when he wasn't looking the stuffed
bear dropped out! After a second the whole class burst out laughing.
From this day on, my brother punches me in the arm when I mention
that story because it was a very embarrassing for him."

Eduardo will receive a "Don't Bug Me" T-shirt and an autographed copy of either 101 Ways to Bug Your Teacher or 101 Ways to Bug Your Parents.

Second Prize goes to Sarah A., age 11, from Harrisburg, PA and
to Sierra M. (no city given). Yes, it's a tie! They both had the same great idea. Here's what they wrote:

"My favorite way to bug my brother/sister is to stand next to them
and yell really loud, "I'm not touching you!" Repeat this several
times until they tell "Mom!" - Sarah

"I like to bug my older sister by sitting next to her and pointing
my finger at her and saying "I'm not touching you!". Or when
we are doing homework at the kitchen table I will do my math
problems out loud--she just gets crazy when I do that!! Or I sing
along with my ipod while she is watching tv. I also like to beat
her out to my mom's van and get the front seat even though
she's called it--I'm bigger than she is and she can't make me
move! LOL! If you can't drive your sister crazy, what fun is
having one then?! (What's really great is that most of these
things work on my Mom too!!) -Sierra

Sierra and Sarah will both receive autographed copies of a book of their choice.

Thanks to all of you who entered!
